About the Owner

We are Liam and Amanda McFadden from Clann Australia. We support communities by empowering families to receive or provide quality ‘Life. Be in it.’™ FamilyCare for their children, elderly and people with disability. We provide families with information, training and employment opportunities putting people before profit, effectively re-villaging our society where families care for families again". The name ‘Clann’ is derived from the Scottish Gaelic ‘Clann’ which means ‘Children’, ‘offspring’ or ‘descendants’. The idea was born from being frustrated parents of a pre-school age child. We had lost confidence in government, big organisations and experts, to ever be able to provide the kind of convenient and affordable childcare we needed. We relied on informal care provided by neighbours, friends and family and worried our child was missing out and at risk of disadvantage compared to children in more formal care settings. Speaking to other families we realised our child was one of more than a million children reliant on informal care. We were not the only family. There are more than 1 million children in Australia being looked after by a family member, friends, neighbours or work colleagues on a regular basis. These well-meaning people are not supported by government or anyone else. If you are one of these people who is generously caring for children other than your own, ‘Clann’ offers you the opportunity to turn what you already do into a supported small business with further training opportunities. After a year of research and planning we were one of the first five Pioneer start-ups selected by the Geelong Runway Accelerator Program. We relocated to Geelong where we dedicated ourselves to bringing our idea to reality. On our platform we offer an ‘Earn while you Learn opportunity’: 1. First you complete a safety program to obtain your Police Check, Working With Children Check, First Aid Certificate and a personal assessment of your skills and capabilities. 2. Then you can enrol in our Induction Program to learn how to operate a safe and sustainable family care business that includes access to early learning resources provided by Skoolbo. Our goals are to set up 1000 carers and 400 families on our platform in the next 1 year. 3. This focus on early learning and healthy active play in a safe care environment is what makes family care a smarter alternative to unsupported informal care. We are a Licensee and advocate for Life. Be in it. FamilyCare. Life. Be in it. FamilyCare works with individuals, families and communities to increase wellbeing, build strengths and encourage optimism for a better life.
